work with us
Do work that matters. With people who care how you do it.
Residential childcare is professional work and everyday life, side by side. Great care depends on good people being properly supported to do it well.

why rubicon
good care starts with good people
Working in residential childcare asks a lot of you. You become part of children’s everyday lives - the school runs, appointments, meals, activities, difficult conversations, laughter, paperwork, celebrations and the moments nobody could have planned for.
So the support around you matters too. At Rubicon, we’re small enough for people to know one another and established enough to offer genuine opportunities to learn, develop and progress. Great care depends on good people being given the support, skills and confidence to do their jobs well.
You’ll work alongside experienced leaders and colleagues, with regular supervision, reflective practice and therapeutic input to help you understand not only what happened, but what might sit underneath it and how best to respond. Rubicon House’s 2026 Ofsted inspection specifically recognised reflective supervision and significant investment in staff development, training, wellbeing and professional growth.

Practical support built in
GOOD CARE NEEDS GOOD SYSTEMS.
Dedicated IT support and training alongside ClearCare help teams manage the essential recording and administration behind residential care with confidence.
And yes - your voice matters
GOOD IDEAS DON’T NEED A JOB TITLE.
Rubicon values people who notice, question and contribute. Reflective practice means sharing what you see, learning from one another and helping shape how the team responds.

what the job actually involves
Residential support work is varied because children’s lives are varied. You’ll help provide safe and supportive care, contribute to care plans and records, support activities and everyday routines, attend relevant meetings, work with families and other professionals and build individual relationships through key work. You will also be part of the ordinary household stuff, because residential care is both professional work and everyday life.
You do not need to be the loudest person in the room or arrive with every answer. Rubicon values people who can build relationships, communicate well, stay curious, take responsibility, work as part of a team and understand that behaviour can communicate something that words cannot.
Experience in residential childcare or social and community work is useful, but the current role specification makes several experience criteria desirable rather than essential. Strong written and verbal communication is essential.
could this be you?
If you’re interested in residential childcare and want to work somewhere that takes children’s needs and staff development seriously, we’d like to hear from you.
Current vacancies can carry the specific salary, rota, qualification and role requirements, while this page does the more important job of showing what it is like to build a career within Rubicon.
