THERAPEUTIC LIFE STORY WORK

making sense of your story. at your pace

A carefully supported way for children to explore their experiences, relationships and memories, and build a clearer understanding of their own story.

understanding your story

EVERY CHILD HAS A STORY.

Some parts may be happy, some confusing, some painful and some difficult to understand.

For children who have experienced trauma, separation or significant changes in their lives, there can be gaps, unanswered questions and experiences that are hard to put into words.

Therapeutic Life Story Work provides a carefully supported way of exploring those experiences and developing a more coherent understanding of the past - without allowing the past to become the whole of who a child is.

UNDERSTANDING WHAT HAPPENED - AND WHAT IT MEANS TO YOU.

Therapeutic Life Story Work isn't simply about collecting photographs, names and dates.

It creates space to explore experiences, relationships, memories and feelings with the support of someone trained to approach that work safely and sensitively.

That can include difficult parts of a child's history, but there is also space for strengths, relationships, achievements, identity, important people and the things that make them them.

The story belongs to the child.

your own story

More than what happened.
Making space for experiences, memories, relationships and the child's own understanding of them.

your own pace

There is no rush.
Exploring difficult experiences needs safety, trust and time, shaped around the individual child.

your own identity

The past isn't the whole person.
Building a fuller picture of identity, strengths, relationships and where a child has come from.

relationships around the work

IT DOESN'T HAPPEN IN ISOLATION.

Therapeutic Life Story Work sits within the wider relationships surrounding a child.

The everyday adults who know them, care for them and understand how they communicate and respond remain important. What emerges through therapeutic work can add to the understanding of what a child may need from the people around them.

At Rubicon, therapeutic knowledge supports relationships rather than replacing them. Life Story Work is another way of understanding the individual child more fully while giving them supported space to make sense of their own experiences.

Your story is part of you.
It doesn't have to define you
