advocacy AT RUBICON

your voice belongs in the conversation

Advocacy helps children understand their rights, express what matters to them and have their views properly heard in decisions about their lives.

being heard

NOT JUST LISTENED TO.

Children should have opportunities to talk about what matters to them, ask questions, raise worries and have a say in the things that affect their lives.

But being asked “What do you think?” isn't always enough. It can be difficult to say what you want, disagree with adults or understand what's being decided.

Advocacy can provide additional support, helping a child understand their rights, express their wishes and feelings and make sure their views have a proper place in the conversations concerning them.

your view matters

This is your life.
Children should be able to say what they think, including when they don't agree.

KNOW YOUR RIGHTS

Understanding matters.
Supporting children to understand their choices, decisions and rights within their care.

someone beside you

You don't have to say it alone.
An advocate can help a child express what matters to them and make sure their voice is heard.

YOU SHOULDN'T NEED A MEETING TO BE HEARD.

Advocacy matters when important decisions are being made, but children's voices shouldn't only become important during meetings or reviews.

What someone wants for dinner matters. How their bedroom feels matters. What they enjoy doing matters. Who they feel comfortable talking to matters. So do the bigger questions around school, family, relationships, care and their future.

Listening is part of knowing someone properly. And where a child needs additional or independent support to have their say, advocacy can help make sure their voice goes with them into the conversation.
