residential care at rubicon
Rubicon Children & Family Services provides residential care across three homes in Kent and East Sussex. Relationships sit at the heart of the way we work, supported by trauma-informed thinking, therapeutic knowledge and a genuine understanding of the individual child.
Occupational Therapy is woven through everyday care, informed by our founder’s professional background. We assess individual needs, think about goals and use everyday activities, environments and sensory opportunities to help children build the skills they need. Where more specific Occupational Therapy assessment is required, this can also be arranged according to the child’s needs, including external assessment where appropriate.
Alongside this, children may benefit from specific programmes and interventions including Therapeutic Life Story Work, The Just Right State and Forest School. These are considered individually rather than forming part of every child’s care, allowing support to be shaped around the child and what will be most useful to them.

Relationships, therapeutic thinking and partnership
Trauma-informed children’s homes depend on relationships, stability and consistent adults who stay curious about the communication underneath behaviour. Therapeutic thinking helps us understand, reflect and respond - but it never replaces knowing the individual child.
PACE remains central to our relational approach, while Occupational Therapy thinking is woven through everyday care. Where a child would benefit from more specific programmes or interventions, these are introduced according to their individual needs and circumstances.
Partnership matters too. Families, social workers, schools and the wider professional network all bring important knowledge about a child. Sharing that knowledge and thinking together helps us provide consistent, considered care as their needs change.

Matching, transitions and progress
A vacancy alone does not make a placement right. Rubicon considers the needs and circumstances of the child being referred alongside the children already living in the home, the environment, the team and the support available. Where a placement progresses, introductions and transitions are planned around the individual child. Rubicon House’s 2026 Ofsted inspection described transitions as individualised and meticulously planned.
Safeguarding, supervision, reflective practice and continuous development sit alongside that matching process. The February 2026 inspection of Number Thirty Two rated all three inspection areas Outstanding and recognised strong safeguarding, reflective leadership, investment in staff development and highly effective therapeutic-lead input.
